If you are a regular visitor to MTB-Threads, you will probably know I am a big fan of Nukeproof bikes. 2018 was a big year for Nukeproof when they won the Enduro World Series with Sam Hill. They have now revamped their range of mountain bikes for 2019 and you are going top love them.
The 2019 Nukeproof Mega range has been refined, upgraded and had a new model introduced. This bike was originally designed to compete in the Megaavalanche race in Alp D’Huez. Therefore, you can expect it to be tough, reliable and high performing.
Here is a summary of the 27.5″ wheeled Nukeproof Mega:
- Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon RS – This is the top of the range Nukeproof Mega. It is the EWS winning carbon bike with updated geometry and RockShox/SRAM components for 2019.
- Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon Factory – Using the same frame as the Carbon RS, the Carbon Factory uses Fox suspension and a Shimano drivetrain.
- Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon Pro – This is great value for money as carbon bikes go, with RockShox suspension and SRAM shifting.
- Nukeproof Mega 275 Alloy Pro – This is a high performace alloy bike with Enduro World Series pedigree and components from RockShox, SRAM and Mavic.
- Nukeproof Mega 275 Alloy Comp – Just because this is the “entry level” version, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t good. This is and incredible value enduro bike with RockShox suspension and SRAM drivetrain.
Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon RS
The top of the range Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon RS, takes inspiration from Sam Hills EWS winning bike. Fun Fact: The blueberry paint scheme represents Sam Hill’s favourite blueberry pancake breakfast.
It has 170mm travel on the front and 165mm on the rear, with steep seat and head angles. This setup makes it ideal for steep rough terrain. The components on this bike consist of the latest RockShox Lyric RC2 fork and Super Deluxe RCT shock. All this, with the SRAM XO Eagle drivetrain and Michelin Wild Enduro tyres, you will have a very capable and proven race bike.
Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon Factory
The Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon Factory is very similar to last year’s model. It is equipped with a Fox 36 fork, with the Fit Grip 2 4-way adjustable damper, and a massive Fox Float X2 rear shock. Running Shimano XT through the drivetrain and brakes, the Factory is a superb bike. Priced at £4,499, this sits in the middle of the 275 Carbon range.
Nukeproof Mega 275 Carbon Pro
The new addition to the Nukeproof Mega range, is the 275 Carbon Pro. This is where Nukeproof live up to their name, with an uncompromising carbon frame with extremely durable components. This bike has RockShox Lyric RC fork and Super Deluxe RC3 shock. The SRAM GX Eagle drive train will help you fly up those climbs while the Michelin Wild Enduro tyres will give you plenty of grip. Additionally, the Mavic Deemax Elite wheels contribute to a fantastic specification, that is proven to be tough and reliable.
Nukeproof Mega 275 Alloy Pro
The Nukeproof Mega 275 Alloy Pro is the top spec of the two Alloy 275 bikes. It has a Lyrik RC upfront and Super Deluxe RC3 shock at the rear. The Mavic Deemax Elite wheel set are shod with Michelin Wild Enduro 2.4in tyres. With an RRP of £3699, this is so good I bought one!
Nukeproof 275 Alloy Comp
A battleship grey and black paint job really suits this kind of bike. This model runs a Rockshox Yari RC fork with the charger damper and the Super Deluxe R ML 1 rear shock. SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain, Guide T brakes and a Nukeproof finishing kit set this bike up to be a great entry level competitor. It is very capable and will suit the majority of riders needs.

- Nukeproof Mega 290 Factory – This is Nukeproof’s top of the range 29er with a Fox 36 fork, custom tuned Fox Float X2 shock and Shimano XT for shifting and braking.
- Nukeproof Mega 290 Pro – an Enduro World Series-proven frame set paired with SRAM/Rockshox for reliability and a confidence-inspiring ride.
- Nukeproof Mega 290 Comp – super value and performance package featuring SRAM/RockShox and built around an EWS-proven frame set.
Nukeproof Mega 290 Carbon Factory
The top of the range 290 Factory has been upgraded with Fox’s new Fox 36 Fit Grip 2 fork and Fox Float X2 rear shock. Shimano have provided their reliable XT drivetrain, while DT Swiss have provided theE1700 wheels. Additional upgrades include the Horizon SL saddle and Sam Hill signature grips.
Nukeproof Mega 290 Alloy Pro
This is the middle of the range 290 Mega, and it comes with the Lyrik R3 fork and a Super Deluxe RC3 shock. This suspension setup leaves lot of adjustment, so you can dial it in just right for you. The SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain should make climbing a dream and the Guide RE brakes, will provide enough stopping power to stop a train.
Nukeproof Scout 275 and 290 Comp
The Nukeproof Scout is an aggressive hardtail bike with the Comp versions being the top spec ones. The spec of both of these bikes is pretty much identical, apart from the wheel sizes obviously.
The suspension comes courtesy of Rockshox with their Revelation RC with the charger damper on the front, giving 140mm of travel on the 275, and 130mm on the 290. The SRAM drivetrain is the NX Eagle 1×12 system and brakes coming in the shape of the Guide R. The 275 Comp comes with Maxxis Minion DHF 2.6in tyres, and the 290 has the fabulous Maxxis High Roller 2 in 2.3in width.
Nukeproof Scout 275 and 290 Race
Middle of the Nukeproof Scout range, is the Scout Race. Priced at £1,349 on both the 275 and 290 versions, this is a well-equipped bike for the cash. The specification on the Race gives you a Rockshox Sektor fork, a Shimano SLX M7000 11 Speed drivetrain and MT500 brakes. Nukeproof uses its own Neutron AM and 29 wheels on the Race, and also looks after the finishing kit with own brand saddle, bars and stem.
Nukeproof Scout 275 and 290 Sport
The Scout Sport is Nukeproof’s entry level hardtail mountain bike. It is very very good value for money and comes in under £1,000. The fork is a Rockshox Recon RL, and it has a Shimano Deore M6000 10 Speed drivetrain. Its wheels are from Nukeproof, similar to the Scout Race and the finishing kit is all Nukeproof too.
Which Nukeproof are you going to buy?
