2021 Nukeproof Mega Overview
I love riding my Nukeproof Mega. For me, it is more than capable for the riding I do here in the French Alps. The other thing that I love about it is its incredible value for money. This is still an expensive bike, but the components are top-notch, and the geometry is properly sorted. In this post I am going to go through the 2021 Nukeproof Mega range, to help you decide if this is the bike for you.
What Is The Nukeproof Mega?
The Nukeproof Mega is a fantastic enduro mountain bike. This means that it is designed for big technical climbs and descents. It has long-travel suspension and to cope with rugged terrain, and all the components are chosen for their reliability and durability.
The type of person that a Nukeproof Mega would suit is one that likes to ride long technical routes but also wants to smash downhill trails.
To give you an idea of the capability of a Nukeproof Mega, it is worth bringing your attention to Sam Hill. Sam Hill has won the Enduro World Series on a Nukeproof Mega several times. Obviously, there are differences in some of the components fitted to Sam’s bike, but the frame is the same.
If you ride trail centres and relatively mild terrain, the Mega probably isn’t for you. This is because it would be overkill for your rides. You will find that it numbs the experience with its long suspension travel. Therefore, I recommend that you check out the Nukeproof Reactor, as this is an excellent trail bike with Mega DNA.
Changes For the 2021 Nukeproof Mega
There have been some changes for the 2021 Nukeproof Mega. It looks very much like last year’s version, which is deliberate. But, the new bike’s frame is completely new, and the shock has been repositioned.
Another thing that Nukeproof have achieved with the new Mega is to make space for a water bottle. This may seem like a fairly insignificant characteristic, but this is a deal-breaker for some riders when they choose a new bike.
The 2021 Nukeproof Mega Frame
The latest frame design is a genuine evolution of its predecessor. The geometry updates give the 2021 Nukeproof Mega a longer wheelbase. This means the distribution of the rider’s weight is affected less by braking, gradient changes or techy terrain. Ultimately, the longer wheelbase will make it more stable.
The reach is longer on the 29″ wheeled bike (the 290), which gives it a more roomy feel. While the chainstay length is shorter for better weight distribution.
To keep in line with modern trends, the head angle is half a degree slacker to improve stability on steep descents. The seat tube angle is slightly steep to help with steep climbs and allows space for a longer dropper seat post.
Suspension Updates
The rear suspension uses the same Horst-link suspension setup used on the previous bike. But the linkages and kinematics have been tweaked to work even better.
The tweaks have improved the sensitivity of the suspension while providing more support at the middle of the stroke. The addition of volume spacers in the shock allows greater turnability..
