The Force GT is an enduro mountain bike and if you are a fan of the Enduro World Series, you will have seen Martin Maes on the podium after tackling some of the worlds toughest trails. This gives you an idea of what to expect form a bike like this. In this post I am going to go in to the details of the 2020 GT Force to help you decide if this is the bike for you.

Who is it for?

The 2020 GT Force is designed for riders that like to go fast on descents. So basically, it is an all mountain/enduro bike that can be ridden anywhere. If you ride technical terrain and like a bike that is rewarding at speed, the GT Force is worth your consideration. As mountain bikes go, this is actually very good value for money. The 2020 GT Force is a very capable enduro mountain bike that is way below the price tag of more exotic bikes built to do the same job.

Details

There are a few different options to suit different budgets and personal preferences.

You have a choice of aluminium or carbon frame materials. You can have 27.5″ wheels on each type of frame, but if you decide to go with the big wheels, you have to have the aluminium frame (for now at least). The carbon frame is shaped for the cabling to be nicely recessed in to a groove on the downtube. This “groove tube” keeps the housing for your brakes, derailleur and dropper seat post protected, while still giving you access to it for maintenance jobs.

The 27.5″ wheeled version has 150mm of travel on the shock and 160mm on the fork, while the 29er has a 170mm fork.

It comes with a threaded bottom bracket, which is great news for those that like to work on their own bikes. Additionally, it has a ISCG chainguide and enough room to mount a full sized water bottle.

The high spec bikes obviously come with higher spec components. The lower end versions come with Tektro brakes. These are reasonable, but given the bike’s intended use, you may want to go for the higher spec bikes with the Shimano brakes if you can afford it.

All versions apart from the Comp 27.5 have 12 speed SRAM Eagle drivetrains. I am a huge fan of this system, as it makes life a lot easier on steep climbs.

Suspension Details

You will probably have seen the LTS (linkage tuned suspension) system on previous versions of the GT Force, but GT say that they have made some changes to it to accommodate the large wheel size options. It is a Horst linkage system that is actuated by a large rocker. This is quite a straight forward solution that you will see across the GT range.

Geometry

The 2020 GT Force is in keeping with all the other modern bikes, in the fact it is low and slack, but the figures are not too extreme. It also is equipped with a flip chip. This allows you to adjust the geometry of your bike to suit your personal preferences. It changes the height by 6mm and the head angle by half a degree. This is designed so doesn’t change the characteristics of how the suspension works.

The low setting is for increased stability and improved cornering. The high is for when you are hitting particularly technical terrain and huge jumps.

It is worth noting at this point that the geometry figures are not too different to the Santa Cruz Bronson and the Specialized Stumpjumper.

Ride Characteristics

The 2020 GT Force is an all mountain/enduro bike, so it is very capable on all types of terrain. However, it is one of those bikes that comes in to its own during high speed descents. The geometry gives it stable and solid characteristics and a burly personality. It is a bike that smashes through everything, rather than pops over obstacles. Enduro bikes are amazing at what they are built for. If you ride single track and bike parks, you may want to buy a trail bike with less suspension travel. This is because you will have more fun on it, as an enduro bike like this is a bit overkill. However, if you ride steep technical terrain, this bike is ideal.
