2020 Vitus Mythique: Everything you need to know
Vitus are making some of the best value mountain bikes at the moment. They have recently released the 2020 Vitus Mythique trail bike. I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of these out on the trails, thanks to competitive prices, modern geometry and its quality components.
It is designed to be accessible to more people, very capable and extremely good fun.
Pros
- Very good for riding everything as a general bike
- Good suspension design
- Great fun with classic trail bike style handling
Cons
- Doesn’t have a solid feel in comparison to a YT Jeffsy or Commencal Meta (but these are more expensive)
- The fork on the VR version could be better
Who is it for?
If you want a quality full suspension mountain bike, the 2020 Vitus Mythique is definitely worth considering. When you compare the specifications with similar bikes from other manufacturers, you will notice that you get a lot for your money. The geometry is in keeping with the modern trend of being low and slack. This makes for a fun and capable mountain bike. The 2020 Vitus Mythique is an ideal bike to progress your skills and have a lot of fun on.
The 2020 Vitus Mythique is for the rider that looks at the trail as a whole. If you want to conquer a particularly technical section on your regular ride, you may want something a bit more substantial.
However, if you can manage to pay the extra go for the VRS or VRX versions over the standard VR. This is because you get much better components that will last longer and give you a much better riding experience. The fork on the VR has been reported to have lacklustre performance, even though the frame, tyres and brakes are fantastic.
Details
There are three different versions of the 2020 Vitus Mythique available. You can also choose between 27.5″ and 29″ wheel sizes. There is also a version designed specifically for women called the VRW. This has similar components to the men’s version, but has narrower handlebars and a shorter stem.
Prices start at £1,249.99/$1,499.99. This is amazing value for money, especially when you think other brands sell full suspension frames for more money.
The medium Mythique, has a 444.35mm reach, a 433mm seat tube, 66 degree head angle and a 75.73 degree seat angle. These angles change slightly with the different frame sizes, Small, Medium, Large and XLarge being available.
Suspension Details
The 2020 Vitus Mythique is based around the Horst link 4 bar suspension design. This type of system is used by other brands and is well proven to work well with a nice progressive feel. It also reduces suspension bob while pedalling.
Vitus Mythique VR and VRW (W for women’s) bikes have 130mm of travel in both 29in and 27.5in wheeled versions. The VRS and VRX bikes will get 140mm travel in both wheel sizes.
On The Trail
When it comes to climbing the 2020 Vitus Mythique is in its element. It has classic trail bike handling and is great for technical climbs, especially when you go for the 29″ wheeled versions. The suspension design does a great job of letting you keep your momentum with the reduced suspension bob. This means you can save energy while staying seated, where you would be standing up on the pedals on some other bikes.
On the descents, the Mythique is more composed and forgiving than some of its rivals. It also has a lively feel to it, while being sure footed inspiring confidence.
When you compare the 2020 Mythique to its rivals, it is vastly superior than the Giant Stance on any type of trail. However, if you want to get ride faster, you will need to pay extra for a YT Jeffsy or Commencal Meta.
